Drive A Tram
Become a Seaton Tram Driver for the day with one of our driving experience courses. The courses are very "hands-on", giving you the chance to enjoy maximum time at the controls and drive in the same conditions as our own staff drivers. The course also includes a guided tour of the Tramway's HQ at Riverside Depot, giving the chance to see behind the scenes of our unique operation. At the conclusion of your course, you receive a commemorative certificate and souvenir to remind you of a great day out.
Courses are available throughout the operating season except:
Bank Holidays and on certain other special days.
Driver's Eye Experience
£50.00 return & Guest £15.00 (max. 6 pers) includes "Explorer Ticket" for the day.
A Driver's Eye Experience gives you a taste of driving one our tramcars. For just £50.00 return take the controls for a trip from Colyton Station to our half way station at Colyford. This trip gives you approximately 20 minutes of tram driving and these sessions are available during 2018 on 16th February, 17th March, 6th, 13th, 20th & 26th May, 17th June, 8th & 15th July, and 9th,16th & 23rd September between 10.20am and 4.00pm. These sessions do not have to be pre-booked but it's best to book your slot in advance to avoid disappointment.
Half Day Tram Driving Lesson
£200.00, Guest £20.00 (max. 6 pers)
Starting at 9.50am or 12.50pm from Colyton Station, this course lasts for approximately 3 hours. The course now offers twice as much driving than before, including two round trips with 12 miles of driving and a visit to our Riverside Depot and workshops. The course ends with refreshments of tea/coffee and cake or biscuits at our Tramstop Restaurant, includes an Explorer ticket for participants to ride on our trams before or after their lesson.
Full Day Tram Driving Lesson
£300.00, Guest £30.00 (max. 6 pers)
Start time 9.50am from Colyton Station and finishing at approximately 4.20pm. The course consists of over 5 return journeys, varying from complete journeys to short workings and lasting the length of a Seaton Tramway driver's shift. You will complete over 30 miles of driving and can visit our Riverside Depot and workshop. The day course includes morning coffee/tea, lunch from a selected menu and on completion of the course a well-deserved Devon Clotted Cream Tea, followed by a relaxing tram ride back to Seaton.
Tram Driving Breaks

Stay the night in one of our specially selected partner 4* B&Bs with lunch, bed & breakfast included as well as a 2-day tram driving course?
Prices are per person based on 1 nights' B&B sharing a twin or double en suite room. All courses include a souvenir certificate and we offer a special gift as a unique memory of the driving experience. Guests receive the same refreshments as referred to in the Gold Package and an Explorer ticket enabling them to travel on the Tramway all day if they so wish.

Transfers by car to and from Axminster Station can be arranged from £20.00 return.
- Before you book your lesson, you should consider whether you are physically fit enough to participate.
- The course involves standing for long periods, and the operation of handbrakes can involve a strenuous physical effort. However, the instructor is on hand to help at all times and will be happy to take over more difficult tasks.
- It may be necessary to use an open tramcar, so appropriate warm and waterproof clothing should be brought along as a precaution. We cannot accept tram driving bookings for anyone under the age of 18.
- Seaton Tramway reserves the right to alter, curtail or cancel the booking without notice, but will endeavour not do so unless absolutely necessary. In the event of complete cancellation, full refunds will be offered.
We prepare food in kitchens with products containing gluten and nuts as well as other allergens. We have taken all reasonable steps to ensure that the allergen charts on view in the cafe are correct. We CANNOT guarantee that any product is "100% FREE FROM" any allergen because of the risk of unexpected cross-contamination.
