Tramway delighted at overwhelming support for new station

11th May, 2015

The recent public open day, held at Seaton Town Hall to exhibit the Tramway’s new plans for a state-of-the-art station, was heralded a great success by the popular tourist attraction. The exhibition highlighted the company’s 45 year long history at Seaton along with detailed 3D images of the new building designed by Ray Hole Architects. Tramway staff were on hand to welcome visitors and discuss the development on a one-to-one basis. Cecilia D’Avolio, the architect behind the innovative design, was also on site to answer detailed queries. The design evokes the curvy, flexible Art Deco lines of the former station building on Harbour Road, whilst incorporating twenty-first century technology and build quality.

Jenny Nunn, Chief Executive of Seaton Tramway, was delighted that over a hundred people had taken time to come and see the exhibition and offer their comments on the new phase of the Tramway at Seaton. “As visitor numbers and have increased over the years, we are finding that the existing ticket office, built by the company in 1995 is no longer sufficiently adequate to meet visitor demands. We are therefore embarking on this exciting project which, in tandem with the opening of Seaton Jurassic, will bring more facilities and benefits to the town not only for visitors but for local people too and at the same time weatherproof us against those wet and windy days! It was a great opportunity to meet with residents, community representatives, accommodation providers and local businesses, to share our thoughts and listen to feedback on the plans as well as talk generally about the huge potential being unlocked in the town. Most of all I was impressed by the overwhelming support for the project, which has been in the pipeline for many years now.”
