VOLUNTEER AT SEATON TRAMWAY
Become a member of our award winning team and be a part of one of Devon's Top Attractions and Heritage Railways. There are lots of volunteer opportunities at Seaton Tramway, from meet & greet, Learning & Activities, to engineering to tram driving!
Come along to Seaton Station between 10am - 2pm on 2nd October to meet our staff and some of our Volunteers, and pick up an application form!
We will be recruiting under the following Departments & Job titles:
*Meet & Greet Duties*:
Quality customer service to all our visitors & colleagues, excellent communication skills in order that we give a personal service to all our visitors, welcome and meet coaches (pre-booked & ad hoc) direct them to the ticket desk at Seaton, advise them of their driver, ask the organiser to pay at the ticket desk. Daily visitors – questions regarding fares, journey, toilets, where does the tram go etc. Visitor enquiries and complaints dealt with satisfactorily. Training to be given.
Subject to passing an initial assessment and medical, and then the driver training course, passed out drivers are required to carry out a minimum of 21 days driving per year. 21 days is the absolute bare minimum, and the company are ideally looking for volunteers who can exceed this. From a Company’s perspective, it is more beneficial to employ a volunteer who can offer one day a week throughout the whole season rather than several separate week stints. Driving shifts are normally between 5 & 6 hours long and vary throughout the season depending on the service frequency operated and will include both weekday and weekend work.
Due to the nature of the position & training involved we cannot accept applications for this role at any other time of year.
The Initial Assessment & Driver Training Course: An initial assessment will be carried out to determine suitability of the applicant. Upon successful completion of this, the Driver training is normally two weeks long, additional training and re-tests/assessments are done annually.
Driver commentary & public speaking is a very important part of the role of tram driver, so applicants need to be comfortable with this.
A short Personal Track Safety tutorial and exam will be included early on in the training.
*Learning & Activities Volunteer*
