SUMMER OF FUN – new LYME BAY PASSPORT

Summer of fun with new Lyme Bay Passport launch

A miniature steam locomotive, tram and donkey will be gathered for the first time ever in Seaton on Friday 4th May at noon to mark the launch of a new initiative to encourage visitors to three of Lyme Bay’s top attractions.

The event at Seaton Tram Station celebrates the arrival of the Lyme Bay Passport, which includes free entry tickets and restaurant treats to Pecorama, Seaton Tramway and The Donkey Sanctuary, all located on the Lyme Bay coastline.

During the launch event, 25 Lyme Bay Passports will be handed out (one per family, on a first come first served basis), and visitors will have the rare chance to see a locomotive from the Beer Heights Light railway, a rescued donkey and an open top double decker tram in one place and find out more about visiting the attractions.

Dawn Vincent of The Donkey Sanctuary, says: “As three of Lyme Bay’s top attractions we are delighted to introduce the Lyme Bay Passport which will enable visitors explore our three venues and save money during their visits.

We each have something unique to offer both local people and holiday makers.”

See the unique fleet of miniature steam locomotives and stunning gardens at Pecorama, step back in time and ride a traditional tram along the Axe Estuary at Seaton Tramway and spend time in the beautiful grounds of the largest donkey sanctuary in the world.”

The Lyme Bay Passports are available from the three attractions and will be produced on purchase of a ticket at Pecorama and Seaton Tramway, or when spending over £5 in The Donkey Sanctuary’s shop.  The initiative will run until Sunday 4th November.

Mark Ridgers of Pecorama says: “We really are pleased with this opportunity to work more closely with our neighbouring tourist attractions and believe all concerned, the Donkey Sanctuary, Seaton Tramway, Pecorama and all our respective visitors will benefit greatly from this initiative.”

Seaton Sees In The Summer!

We’ve just released a Press Release all about our Summer Season and the events we have planned for the school holidays, read below:

Seaton Tramway, one of Devon’s most popular tourist attractions, is getting into the summer spirit by planning a fantastic fun week to launch the summer season and start of the school holidays. ‘Here comes Summer’ kicks off on Saturday 23 July and runs throughout the week, until 29 July, during which they will bring all things seaside to Seaton and Colyton.

The Tramway team will be installing a temporary sandpit at Seaton for sand-castle building. For the more adventurous on Monday 25 July, between 11am and 3pm, there will be a Surf Simulator to ride some waves. For those wanting to put their feet up, watch the fun and the world go by, there will be a number of deck-chairs available, people can also get in the seaside spirit and take photos as they pop their head’s through cut out boards with seaside scenes of a bygone era.

This week also sees the official launch of tram 11 in its new pink livery to take over from the highly successful tram 8 which will now be withdrawn from service pending an overhaul for re-emergence in new Bristol livery next year. Tram 11 is one of Seaton Tramway’s new super trams, originally launched in 2007, and can carry 56 passengers, almost 50% more than tram 8. Due to the huge demand the Tramway has experienced from visitors to travel on the pink tram, this should mean that more will get the chance to travel on this unique vehicle.

If you turn up at 10am on 23rd July dressed all in pink, you’ll get the opportunity to be one of the first 56 passengers to travel on the pink tram for free. Spaces are limited so first come, first served. During fair weather the novel Pirate Boat Tram will also run. There will also be a seaside themed spot the difference competition on the trams, with a prize for all completed entries.

The Track Shack will become a traditional seaside sweet shop, selling all things pink including sticks of rock, candy floss, ice-cream, pink candy shrimps and bonbons.

Jenny Nunn, Managing Director of Seaton Tramway says “We’re really excited about the launch for the summer holidays, rain or shine there will be plenty for the whole family to do and see. The traditional seaside theme just adds a little twist and some good old fashioned fun to the uniquely beautiful setting we have at Seaton.”

At the other end of the line at Colyton there’s even more to do and see with Hawkridge Birds of Prey there on Sunday 24 July, a bouncy castle on Thursday 28 July and a traditional Punch and Judy Show for the kids on Friday afternoon (29 July). And from Monday 25 to Friday 29 there’s a summer barbecue on the station platform with delicious locally produced burgers, sausages, vegetarian options and a range of cold beers available for the grown-ups. There will be summer tea time treats too with local strawberries and cream and home-baked cakes and scones of gigantic proportions for indulgent cream teas.

The fleet of 14 electric trams, many of which have been restored, will be running every day from 10.00 until 17.00 at Seaton and 17.30 at Colyton, transporting people along the Axe estuary on the three mile route between Seaton and Colyton.

Return tickets between Seaton and Colyton are £8.75 for adults, £8 for seniors and students, and £4 for children. It is also possible to travel all day for just £1 extra per adult and 50p extra for per child. Trams run every twenty minutes each day.

Just ahead of the summer launch and new for this year, Seaton is getting sassy with a Caribbean evening experience on Saturday 16 July. With traditional Caribbean food and drink and entertainment from the Blackdown Hills Steel Band, Seaton Tramway will be hoping to transport their visitors to another world.

People are being encouraged to wear their best, brightly coloured holiday wardrobe to add to the atmosphere. Tickets for the party are priced at £15 (or £20 including the return tram ride). Trams depart Seaton at 7.00pm and Colyton at 10.30pm and advanced booking is essential.
